Dr. Nicole Politis, Licensed Clinical Psychologist
About Dr. Nicole Politis
I became a psychologist because I am passionate about the well-being of others and about the field of psychology. I genuinely see great potential in others; and while I realize each individual has areas of challenge, ultimately, people are alive with possibilities. I am drawn toward helping people facilitate change in their lives. It is a great privilege and true honor to be a part of my patient’s journeys. I am blessed I get to do what I love everyday. One of my most important strengths as a clinician is my ability to listen empathically to other individuals and what they want, and to operate from an understanding of their worldview. When I collaborate with individuals along their journey, my objective is to help them experience happiness, personal fulfillment, and a more harmonious life.
For more than a decade, I have worked in a variety of different settings with children, adolescents, adults, and families presenting with a wide array of symptoms and struggles. I have worked in a residential treatment center, county mental health agencies, outpatient/agency settings, intensive in-home settings, alternative care facilities for chronically mentally ill individuals, multiple levels within the Child Welfare System, and with individuals in inpatient and partial hospitalization units. In addition to therapeutic services, I enjoy providing comprehensive psychological and psycho-educational evaluations in an effort to bring about answers and recommendations in response to questions and concerns.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling, I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Colorado (LPC), and I also hold a Doctorate of Education in Counseling Psychology. I completed my doctoral dissertation on the topic of attachment and trauma, which was inspired by my life passions: healthy relationships, healthy children, and healthy families. I received my pre-doctoral internship experience at Mental Health Partners, and my postdoctoral training under a licensed psychologist through Denver Integrative Assessment and contract work with the Eating Recovery Center.
My assessment specialties include issues related to Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, eating disorders, and emotional and behavioral challenges. My therapeutic specialties include simple and complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and attentional difficulties. As a clinician, I employ a variety of therapeutic techniques and interventions, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Psychoanalytic, Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused, and Mindfulness Based interventions. My approach to treatment tends to be integrative as I recognize that one particular approach may not be the best fit in every situation. I aim to be open-minded and flexible in order to provide the most culturally appropriate services in each situation. I enjoy empowering others to make necessary changes and build off personal strengths.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my precious children and my wonderful husband. Together, we are often outdoors, enjoying the wonderful adventures and beauty Colorado has to offer.
