Therapy for Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety and depression are common conditions with a variety of causes, including trauma, family history and brain chemistry.
If you have worked with a therapist before or this is your first time, remember that even when things feel hopeless, help is available and seeking support is an important first step.
If you are suffering from any signs of depression, including lingering feelings of sadness, shifts in sleep patterns or appetite, or loss of interest in everyday activities, speaking with a psychologist can help you identify underlying problems and regain your quality of life.
Therapy for Adolescents and Parents
With help from Katherine Knight Ph.D., at Boulder Wellness Psychology, you don’t have to struggle alone. Katherine can relate extremely well to teens – in part because of her own challenging teenage years – and she loves to help young people discover who they are and who they want to become.
Turning your adolescent away from negative behavior and toward a constructive mindset may be easier than you think. Call (303) 809-8117 or email me to schedule your first appointment.
Types of Therapy
Several empirically supported, results oriented approaches to therapy are available through Boulder Wellness Psychology. We will work together to create a program for you or your adolescent that meets your specific needs.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is based on the idea that what we think effects how we feel.
CBT will help you become aware of negative or inaccurate thinking, and respond more clearly and effectively to life’s challenges. This is very helpful for individuals dealing with anxiety or depression, and can help anyone learn to manage stressful situations more effectively, including adolescents.
CBT teaches you to overcome self-defeating thoughts and replace them with positive, productive ideas that you really believe. Research shows that this is a powerful tool for self-improvement, and at Boulder Wellness Psychology, you will learn how to unlock this positive approach to wellness and start feeling better.
The goal of mindfulness therapy is to create a stronger connection to the present moment, instead of feeling trapped in past experiences or anxious about the future.
Boulder Wellness Psychology’s owner, Katherine Knight, Ph.D., has practiced mindfulness and yoga personally, to not only to improve the quality of her own life, but to connect more meaningfully with her therapy clients and improve her approach to therapy.
A growing body of research shows that mindfulness can help you feel calmer, happier and more patient when dealing with difficult circumstances or situations.
This approach can alleviate the symptoms of anxiety and depression by reducing your stress and self-criticism, as well as improving focus, attention span and self-control.
If you are ready to take the first step toward freedom from anxiety or depression, or discuss how these methods can help you, please call Boulder Wellness Psychology at (303) 809-8117 or email me to schedule an appointment.
